Money for This Art Room!

Guess What?! Today I found out that I am receiving a $2,000 grant from Target for my art department!!!

I applied for the grant back in April and wrote an art unit called: "Embracing Equity Through Multicultural Craft and Art Studies."

Sooo I'm super excited, and um, encourage you to go and spend money at Target cause they're awesome! They give 5% of their profits away to educational institutions every year. The applications go out for next in February-ish (I think), so check it out for your school.

YAY ART!

What? School Already?!

It seems like a week ago I was lamenting about school being over. . .And, now I'm sad -sorta- to report it begins again on Monday August 3rd!! I'll be spending this next week at school doing all the teachery things that need to happen to get the school ready.

I'm excited and nervous for a new year. Beginnings are always scary to me, but the middle and end is so much fun.

This year I'm teaching pre-k 3 year olds through High School art. . .So, I'll be sure to post lots of the fun madness that is sure to occur!

Torte for the Cohort!

This is my last semester of full-time in the classroom grad school classes. Next semester (my last one yay!) is my practicum semseter, so while my cohort will meet a few times, we won't be hanging out regularly. I think I've posted about this before, but I have an awesome cohort! I've heard horror stories from friends who've had either really obnoxious cohort members and/or didn't really have the kind of community support a cohort can provide. So, I feel lucky. Because, really, a good cohort keeps you going. There is a feeling of we are all in this together, and we are all suffereing together. . .And, we cheer each other on! I know that nearly all of us has thought of quitting at some point or another and it is really hard to quit when you've got great people telling you to hang in there.
So, we meet this week twice and next week twice and then it is practicum time. As such, in honor of these great peeps (and one great cohort peep who got married last week -can you believe that!?) I baked up some yummy butterscotch torte.

It is waiting in my fridge to be gobbled up. I can't wait.

IF: Giant

At 6 ft tall, I always feel like a giant when I'm in my classroom teaching. Literally, this is how much taller than my wee little students I am. This is what happens to your illustrations when you have teaching-on-the-brain!

8 in x 8 in gouache on bristoal paper.
